about
This tune was written by Jay Braun and I. We walked into Times Square in NYC on October 15th, 2011. Throngs of people were out in the cold, gathering their voices into one loud rumble heard around the world. When the electronic ticker on the ABC building read "Occupy Movement goes worldwide", the crowd erupted- luckily we brought a portable recorder - that's the cheering you hear in the middle of the song.
Here are the words:
lyrics
This situation’s like a Rorschach test
And the news isn’t getting it right
Check your sources and make sure your reporters
Aren’t takin’ us all for a ride
I saw a woman talking to a thousand people
Loud enough to be getting heard
‘Cause even in a crowd without a microphone
We can listen and echo the words
Gone are the days of stepping on each other
Getting to the top of the heap
Gone are the days of the foxes in the henhouse
While everybody’s fast asleep
Gone are the days of putting other people’s
Futures on the auction block
Gone are the days of calling corporations
People because they’re not
The world is watching ‘cause it just makes sense
It’s time to write our own history
So fair’s fair, time to get off the fence
Recognize this opportunity
Gone are the days of stepping on each other
Getting to the top of the heap
Gone are the days of the foxes in the henhouse
While everybody’s fast asleep
Gone are the days of putting other people’s
Futures on the auction block
Gone are the days of calling corporations
People because they’re not
This is another story ‘bout a pile of gold
And the bankers and the masses, it gets so old
Don’t you think this story’s at the end of the line
If not now it’s just a matter of time
Gone are the days of stepping on each other
Getting to the top of the heap
Gone are the days of the foxes in the henhouse
While everybody’s fast asleep
Gone are the days of our leaders in the pockets of the
Special interests lurking around
Gone are the days of telling fairy tales about some
Money that is trickling down
Gone are the days of putting other people’s
Futures on the auction block
Gone are the days of calling corporations
People because they’re not
